Eagle Fire Company along with Union Fire Company had a busy morning with 3 seperate accidents in as little as 2 hours. The first accident occured on Saginaw Road at Mt Hebron Road in East Manchester Township. Chief 22-1 (Gingerich) arrived on scene to find a single vehicle on it's roof with the driver outside of the vehicle with no injuries. The box was held to Engine 22-2 non emergency. As Engine 22-2 was just clearing this accident, another accident response was requested to North George St at Steamboat Blvd with R-23. Engine 22-2 responded with Chief 22 (Brenneman) on board. Engine 22-2 staged at Beshore School Road to shut down southbound traffic while R-23 checked on injuries. While Engine 22-2 was closing the road a third accident was dispatched in Manchester Borough at N. Main St and Cooper St. Chief 23 (Stevens) requested Engine 22-2 break free and respond with Rescue 24 from Manchester Township. Chief 22 (Brenneman) took command. It was a 2 vehicle accident with two patients. Chief 22 placed Rescue 24 in service and requested a total of 2 BLS and 1 ALS unit. Crew from Engine 22-2 and EMS packaged 2 patients who were later transported to area hospitals. With about 3 inches on the ground and another 6-9 expected this afternoon we may have a busy day. Please remember to drive slow and if you don't need to be on the roads stay at home.
Eagle Fire Company was dispatched to 205 Rosedale Drive in East Manchester Twp for the second chimney fire this week. Capt. 23-2 (Stevens) arrived on scene and requested a working fire assignment. Engine 22-1 wrapped the hydrant and laid into Engine 23-2. Engine 22-1 crew made entry with the handline from Engine 23-2 and with Chief 23 (Stevens). We worked on finding the fires location. It was hidden in the wall. While crews were operating inside, a large mirror above the fireplace broke. At that time a hole was made in the wall and the fire was found to have burned completely through the wall studs. FF Shroyer from Engine 22-1 had the knob and was being backed up by Capt 22 (Kane) and Chief 22-1 (Gingerich). Chief 22 was in charge of Accountability / Manpower Staging. Crews returned in the early morning hours to repack hose and get warmed up from the cold weather. This should help serve as a reminder to have your chimney checked each season. Luckily these past two fires have not resulted in injury or loss of life.
At 1:34 PM Eagle Fire Company was dispatched for a possible residential structure fire across from John Rudy BMX track. Engine 22-1 and Tanker 22 responded initially, and Utility 22 responded a few minutes later with additional manpower. Chief 23-1 arrived on scene and found a working fire in the chimney. Engine 22-1 with Chief 22 on board requested a working fire assignment. Engine 22-1 went back the residence lane and personnel went interior to locate the fire box and start cleaning it out. Engine 22-1 crew pulled a 1 3/4" hand line to the interior along with chimney buckets and extinguishers to begin the process of extinguishment. Truck 24 took position on the roof and was able to bust through built up material to clear the chimney. This is a great reminder to everyone that burns combustible materials for heat to have their chimney checked and cleaned yearly before the cold season starts.
At around 10:30 crews from Eagle Fire Company were dispatched to 655 Cassel Rd for a 2nd Alarm Residential Structure Fire. Engine 22-1, Tanker 22 and Utility 22 responded to the incident. Engine 22-1 arrived on scene and staged to send manpower forward to assist with extingsuishment. Tanker 22 dropped its portable tank and E-25-2 drafted from that to feed E-23-1. Utility arrived with additional manpower. Crews operated on scene in the freezing cold for several hours before taking up and heading home.
Eagle Fire Company responded to a total of 3 working fires in under 24 hours. Crews were first dispatched into Manchester Township in the middle of the night to the old Cedar Village Complex for a working fire, 3rd Alarm Assignment. Crews arrived on scene and assisted with overhaul and extinguishment. Chief 22 was assigned as manpower officer. Later that day we were dispatched into Hellam Township on the working fire assignment. Engine 22-1 and the Tanker responded with a total of 9 people to assist Hellam with a fire in a barn converted into a home. Crews from 22 were assigned to overhaul. A few hours after cleaning up from the Hellam fire, Eagle was again dispatched to a working fire in Wrightsville Borough. Engine 22-1 arrived on scene and met up with the crew from Utility 22 (manpower) to form a team of 6 firefighters. Chief 21 assigned Chief 22 to a crew made up of Lancaster Station 7-9 and York Station 44 to enter the Exposure Bravo building and stop fire spread. The remainder of the crew under direction of Chief 22-2 went to work both in the fire building and on the roof of the exposure building. Crews returned to the station a little after 2am.
