Second Busy Sunday In A Row

For the second week in a row, Sunday has shaped up to be extremely busy.  We started off the morning with a reported garage fire in East Manchester Township on Donrene Drive.  Chief 22 arrived to find the fire extinguished by the neighbor.  The homeowner had placed hot embers from a cooking fire the night before in a trash can.  Engine 22-1 ensured that there was no extension and soaked the remaining items in the trash can outside in the yard.  Later in the afternoon we went Mutual Aid to Conewago Township for a structure fire at an apartment complex.  We later transferred Engine 22-1 to Station 26-2 for standby until they were back in service.  Then around 21:30 we were dispatched for a fire in a soda can in the middle of the road near John Rudy Park.  York County Park Rangers had found the device which contained flammable liquids in a metal soda can and a roman candle used as the wick.  The Park Ranger used his fire extinguisher to put the fire out.  Engine 22-2 assisted in checking the surrounding roads for any secondary devices, none were found.  The device was disposed of and all units returned in service.

Car Loses Tire - Strikes Gas Meter

Eagle Fire Company was dispatched to the area of North Sherman Street Extended and Blossom Drive for a vehicle into a house with gas flowing.  Captain 22 arrived on scene and` began procedure to shut off the gas service to the meter.  Chief 22 had command and requested the crew from Engine 22-1 take readings from our gas meter in the home to ensure gas had not built up inside.  The readings showed no gas and Truck 24 sent a crew in with second meter to confirm the results before being released.  Chief 22 and Tanker 22 remained on scene waiting for Columbia Gas while the Engine headed out for another call in East Manchester Township.  It turned out to be a busy Sunday with 4 total calls.

Vehicle Into Barn 10/10/10

Eagle Fire Company was dispatched to the area of North Sherman Street and Mundis Race Road for a vehicle into a structure.  Chief 22-1 arrived to find a single vehicle had struck a stone barn and was wedged in between the barn and a utility pole.  Chief 22-1 held the box to Engine 22-2, Utility 22, Chief 22 and Chief 22-1.  There was no one around the vehicle and Met-Ed needed to be present before it was removed.  With all hazards taken care of the box was placed in service.

Reported Furnace Fire 10/9/10

Eagle Fire Company was dispatched for a reported Furnace Fire in Starview Mobile Home Park.  Chief 22-1 arrived on scene to find normal conditions in the home and the furnace door off the unit.  The box was held to Engine 22-1, Chief 22, and Chief 22-1.  The homeowner had thought there had been an explosion when the unit turned on.  After a thorough inspection of the whole HVAC system, firefighters found that the tab to keep the door in place was loose and the door fell off from vibration.  To ensure the complete safety of the homeowner firefighters checked the unit with the Thermal Imaging Camera, performed a courtesy Carbon Monoxide check of the home and also went onto the roof to ensure the HVAC vent pipe was clear.
